Pick Up Goliath – Monolanguage (2026)

Willing to delve into the darker, drearier, more desperate raw emotions and issues in reality, singer-songwriter Pick Up Goliath explores depression, isolation, inner turmoil, mental health and addiction in his intriguing music. Sweeping heavy hard rock and metal sounds into your ears, he wriggles about our brain, slips down our spine, and slithers into every muscle, tendon and bone connecting, resonating and entrancing. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Monolanguage’.

Taken from his conceptual EP, Salt & Static, ‘Monolanguage’ turns our attention inward, exploring communication itself. Pick Up Goliath explains: “’Monolanguage’ came from recognising how often I thought I was communicating, when in reality I was only expressing symptoms. For a long time, I translated everything into forms that felt safer or more acceptable. Frustration instead of fear. Humour instead of vulnerability. Silence instead of honesty. The song is about becoming aware of that pattern and trying to break it, even when those habits have become part of who you are.”

Lyrically and conceptually, ‘Monolanguage’ is intriguing and, in a way, inspiring; melodically, it is just as consuming. Self-recorded and produced by the Spain-based artist, ‘Monolanguage’ retains the heavy metal tone of Pick Up Goliath’s previous material, yet it differs with hard-hitting hip-hop leaning toward a nu-metal hybrid. Binding thrashing drums and a scorching guitar with synth-infused layers, the track is a raw, gritty rush of music hitting you between the eyes and shoving you into a dark sonic whirlpool.

One aspect upping the ante is what I imagine as strings dripping into the forceful, frenzied melody with serenity. Moreover, a wood instrument pipes up about halfway through the five-and-a-half-minute song, lilting with percussive charm. Add the “Mike Shinoda-inspired vocal passages”, and you have a song that is simultaneously smooth, chaotic and venting in its metal meets hip-hop style.

My overall opinion of ‘Monolanguage’? Not for the faint-hearted but highly recommended.
