Reagan Hudson – When Your Husband Gets Out Of Jail (2026)
In 2024, we were introduced to singer-songwriter Reagan Hudson – a cattle farmer from North Carolina with a penchant for turning raw human experiences into melodic celebration. The first single we heard, ‘Mama’s Going To Rehab’, is a song about the misgivings of a tipsy Mama who had an affair with her therapist and heads off to rehab. It’s not something we come across every day, though I’m certain it happens more than one could imagine. This is what Hudson is all about: turning the quirky and real into fun, country-driven musical moments. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘When Your Husband Gets Out Of Jail’.
Born of an unlikely scenario, ‘When Your Husband Gets Out Of Jail’ is inspired by a court show on television. If you’re like me, you’ve probably watched a couple in your day, and the cases range from laughable to “what the hell!”. Hudson explains: “I was watching a popular court show on TV. This guy was suing a girl that he had been dating, and he said, “I knew she was going to leave me when her husband got out of jail. I thought, dang, that’s a country song if ever I heard one. So, I wrote it!”
Produced by Dale Myer, and drawing together the talents of Myer (guitar), Jim Ashton (guitar), James Brock (drums), and Hudson on vocals, ‘When Your Husband Gets Out Of Jail’ is a three-minute rush of solid Americana. A steady drum beats in the background, while a bass guitar steps along with an electric guitar slithering across the melody. The standout element is the pedal steel adding its quintessential country twang and bluegrass hum.
All in all, ‘When Your Husband Gets Out Of Jail’ is a mournful tune with Hudson’s vocals bringing a sigh of melancholy and defeat; however, just as it is grief-laden, it is also an exceptionally soothing track. Sad but tender, fragile but confident, soothing but heart-aching, it’s just so… real. I imagine a Stetson-wearing cowboy sitting on the porch strumming his guitar, singing his heart out, with a bloodhound at his side almost ready to sing along in joint despair.
Sincere, sentimental and honest, I very much enjoyed ‘When Your Husband Gets Out Of Jail’ and am eager to hear more.
