Sarah Wendlandt – Oh June (2026)
Like peeking at a diary entry that should probably be left unread, singer-songwriter Sarah Wendlandt lays all those emotions and experiences bare in song rather than on paper. From the driving passion of a new romance to the tender joy of lasting friendship. The excitement of a new adventure to the melancholy of unexpected loss. Each moment, feeling, breath, idea, and sensation is captured in Wendlandt’s enigmatic brand of folk music. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ‘Oh June’.
Following her 2025 singles ‘Honey’ and ‘Gone Missing’ – well, at least according to Spotify – ‘Oh June’ is Wendlandt’s first step into 2026. Joined by singer-songwriter Franzi Berg, the German pair weave together a guitar, banjo, and percussion in a bold few minutes of acoustic music. Produced with Luca Troschke, ‘Oh June’ shows the beauty of simplistic, organic music and how it can be more impactful than any song with bells and whistles.
Toe-tapping and mellifluous, ‘Oh June’ is easy on the ears, gentle, heartfelt and seems to lift a weight off your shoulders. Yet, as much as it is a song you enjoy playing on the radio, there is an emotional sensation drawing you closer, almost placing you in the music; palpable rushes of optimism and hopefulness, but with a sliver of vulnerability wavering in the enchanting vocals. While Wendlandt’s strumming guitar drives the track with a silvery trail, it is Berg’s banjo that gives it a kick with its wistful twang.
Familiar and comforting, but simultaneously unpacking raw emotion in delicate tones, ‘Oh June’ can easily captivate listeners. This is my introduction to the Leipzig-based pair, and I am eager to work through Wendlandt’s back catalogue while waiting for more music.
Why not head over to Sarah Wendlandt’s YouTube channel and check out her acoustic videos with Franzi Berg, including one of ‘Oh June’. The video is a snippet of the single, just under one minute, but it’s the perfect chance to enjoy their confident, engaging, smile-inducing performances. Go on, treat yourself!
