Silva Lining Band – We All Need Love (2026)
Silva Lining Band return with the latest in their monthly single series, ‘We All Need Love’ – a song that lingers in emotion. Sliding rhythmic percussion and groovy acoustic guitar chords intertwine for a knee-slapping, inspiring core of music. The song moves determined, as if the band is pushing against a threshold.
With ‘We All Need Love’, Tiago Silva and company continue to explore the world of a bad romance, heard in previous singles, with these early lines: “You keep your thoughts hidden away/ Feels like we ran out of luck”. The strenuousness in the music is a reflection of turning your emotions and thoughts over and over after being shut out in a romance. The minimal composition anchors the narrative in that suffering and allows Silva to exist in this state. But the groove sounds serviceable. The inspired drumming of Rodrigo Carvalho gives the song its gliding feel with sophisticated, passionate drum fills. He and Nino Silva, who’s on percussion, are the driving force. Tiago Silva and the band’s horn section follow, leading them to their own bursts of life. They all soon mirror the anguish of showing up for love and protecting your feelings when your effort is dismissed.
The hook, however, feels like a jump when Silva pleads in his endearing falsetto, “We all need love/ We can’t break up”. There are feelings not being communicated from this losing side. As the song continues, there’s no move from pity that would allow introspection or patience. Silva, a skilled narrative songwriter, successfully puts the listener into the story. Here’s what’s not working: “I have my own problems/ You got your little quirks”. But a lack of desperation and universality in the lyrics doesn’t let us inhabit the world of the failing romance or his feelings.
Those familiar electric horn harmonies are present, but without swing or variety. On the breakdown, Miguel Mascarenhas shreds on his electric guitar, but doesn’t travel inward to lead the song beyond the surface rendering of heavy emotions. On ‘We All Need Love’, Silva Lining Band lets the theme, proficient playing, and that unique falsetto engage on this solid track.
