Stephanie Westdal – Sirens (2026)
Well-travelled, bilingual, musically diverse, and a celebrated visual artist to boot, Canadian singer-songwriter Stephanie Westdal turns international heads with her critically acclaimed work. While some people become “world-weary”, Westdal became “world-inspired as well as world-wise”, delving into the human experience in its totality. With extensive international tours, well-received albums and singles, Westdal continues to share her enthusiasm for the world with audiences. We came across Stephanie Westdal a couple of months ago with the folk-pop/indie-pop single, ‘On The Video’. Today, she steps into our lives once again with ‘Sirens’.
Following ‘BLEED Remix (ft The Ranger System)’, Westdal slips into the realms of alternative-pop with ‘Sirens’. Not merely a song, but an experience, the track seeps into your soul from the first moment; a rush of soft, mellifluous, but also haunting music. Produced by Chris Burke-Gaffney and with Allen Hunnie on mastering duties, the twirling of drum beats, synths, soaring guitar, and percussion oscillates between sincerity and vulnerability, confidence and fragility, warmth and chill.
For me, the elements that “up the ante” in ‘Sirens’ are the delicate piano and Westdal’s hard-hitting vocals. Each piano note seems to pierce the tune, but also veils it in an… I don’t know what, exactly. It’s like that moment in Mists Of Avalon when the priestesses lift the fog off the lake to reveal Avalon. Westdal’s haunting vocals guide you like the siren she sings about – vivid, vibrant and seductive. Yet, you need to be cautious as those seductive tones lead to tumultuous waters and a painful death.

From the outset, I was lost in ‘Sirens’. It’s entirely engulfing and takes you away in an enigmatic swoon. Highly recommended!
