Subsonic Night Shift – Closed Eyes (2026)
Drawing together the musical stylings of Göran Florström (vocals), Rat Westlake (guitar) and Zvonko Hvizdak, Swedish trio Subsonic Night Shift saunters through the realm of heavier rock music, gathering flowers into a hard-hitting sonic bouquet. While each of the members is a seasoned musician, Subsonic Night Shift is, well, relatively new if you look at their streaming platforms. With only two tracks to their name – ‘Karmic Cycle’ and ‘Closed Eyes’ – the lads might be shiny minnows in an industry shark pool with this project; they’re that minnow that darts, weaves and proves he is set for stardom. Join us as we delve into their most recent single, ‘Closed Eyes’.
Produced by Westlake and Hvizdak, ‘Closed Eyes’ is a solid hard rock track that drags you back to the 1990s/2000s hard rock sound while offering a contemporary edge, allowing audiences to revel in retro but enjoy flits of the present. Heavy – that’s one word that can describe ‘Closed Eyes’; heavy and powerful, the song seemingly leads you into a dark, foggy soundscape like finding your way across a sonic forest with imps behind each tree, the lurking eeriness of dark magic all about, and that tummy-sinking, heart-pounding sense of “oh, hell, I’m in for a ride”.
In one way, ‘Closed Eyes’ has a hypnotic rhythm with each instrument binding in unity. However, it is also a mass of disconnected guitars, bass and drums, each a driving element in that sonic forest. The bass sniggers along the sides with boldness, while guitars drive you on with classic rock shoves, and the drums… well, they pulsate and crash, upping the anticipation of something ready to pounce.
For me, it is Flörström’s husky vocals that add the skin-tingling, heart-tugging, slither into your ears and up the adrenaline sensation of ‘Closed Eyes’. In the band’s words, ”’Closed Eyes’ is a journey into the darker reaches of the human soul, where our fears are used to feed our own enemies… vocals from the void take us into the shadow world of music.”
