Sutlej – Tell Me You Care (2026)
Drawing together the musical talents of Lewis Maddison, George Power and George Butcher, London has a new alternative rock band set for the stars. Music-wise, Sutlej takes inspiration from the likes of Wunderhorse and Deftones; however, individuality and distinctiveness brim for a sound that is quickly becoming signature. Earlier this year, the trio released their debut single, ‘Let Me Out’, to critical acclaim – a single that turned heads with its rush of emo rock. Today, we turn up our speakers to listen to their new track, ‘Tell Me You Care’.
Produced by Alex Mountford, ‘Tell Me You Care’ isn’t as raucous or rambunctious as ‘Let Me Out’. In fact, the new single takes a massive step down from the chaos of its predecessor. Simplistic in one way, Power’s drums, Butcher’s bass guitar, and Maddison’s guitar weave together in a heartfelt melody. Instead of pounding, the drums sit with a pulsating beat. The bass sweeps across at a steady pace, and the guitar softly dances across the arrangement. Then again, that’s just the opening.
A gentle lull into a rock-tinged soundscape, listening to ‘Tell Me You Care’ is like setting off on a glistening sonic river. It’s smooth and sparkling with a gentle ripple pushing you along; however, tempestuous waves hide beneath the surface. Soon, just as you’ve set off on this comfortable ride, a crash of drums hits, knocking you sideways, and the guitars soar, scorch and slice with bold bravado. Oddly enough, while there’s a hint of chaos in the tune, ‘Tell Me You Care’ contains a warm, comforting, lingering soothing. Moreover, the flip of boisterousness exists in a mellifluous sonic wrapper.
Confident and strong with a hint of vulnerability in the vocals, ’Tell Me You Care’ is intimate without being too overwhelming. With the mention of new singles throughout the year, I am eager to hear more from this talented trio.
