The Certs – Just For Show (2026)

Beginning as a one-man band, founding member Carter Elvis Robinson started with a vision of taking the rock scene by storm; however, it didn’t remain a solo project for too long. Yes, the UK rock scene is being taken by storm, but not by Robinson alone. Joined by Amos Burton (guitar and backing vocals), Fin Chaney (bass), and Lucas Carkeek-Blakley (drums), the Surrey-based quartet were quickly turning heads as The Certs, selling out shows, receiving critical acclaim, and featuring on notable radio stations. With support from the BBC – features on BBC Introducing, BBC Surrey and Sussex Live Lounge – The Certs have built serious momentum over the past year. Join us as we listen to their most recent release, ‘Just For Show’.

Following their well-received single ‘Intuition’, ‘Just For Show’ is a hard-hitting thwack between the eyes. From the outset, crashing drums pound, setting the chaotic pace of the tune. A bassline weaves through the track, bringing heaviness to the song, then scorching guitars kick things up a notch with their sensational swooping sound. Yet, amidst the powerful rush of music, tossing you into a sonic hurricane, there is an odd comfort in Robinson’s lead vocals. In one way, his voice retains a sense of urgency, but the rich warmth dances like a friend holding your hand and grinning while you swim through the topsy-turvy-ness.

Recorded and produced in Manchester with Tom Chapman of New Order, ‘Just For Show’ is The Certs at their most confident and cinematic. Melodically, the song is a bit of a wild ride; lyrically and thematically, it’s as intense. In its overwhelming bind of sound, ‘Just For Show’ “…captures the tension between image and reality, exploring the facades people build and the truths lurking just beneath the surface…”

Not necessarily sincere, nor is it sentimental, but there is an enveloping honesty and intimacy that makes the song weighty and engaging. A highly recommended band that I will be keeping my eye on.
