The Graceland Conspiracy – We Are Chaos (2026)
Named after the theory that Elvis is alive and well, residing in Graceland – a theory we can neither confirm nor deny – The Graceland Conspiracy is a weaving of seasoned artists, their influences, their skill, and their mastery of music. Technically formed by Colin Crooks (piano and bass), the Belfast-based collective saw Crooks shift from a heavier musical rage to something more ethereal, dreamier, but still as complex in its wistful sincerity. Alongside Crooks is Paul Wilkenson (guitar), Jon McKinley (horns), Gary Taylor (drums) and Edelle McMahon (vocals). A song from yesteryear, ‘We Are Chaos’ was initially recorded at Belfast’s Earth Music with Vic Fulton-Bronzini – the original used programmed drums that didn’t quite fit their vibe, so it was shelved. Several years later, the track was revived, rejuvenated, and released to international audiences.
Remastered by Audio Animals, ‘We Are Chaos’ leans toward an indie-folk sound with wistful vibes and a cinematic ambience. It opens with a delicate guitar, like a person sitting around a campfire smiling and strumming. As the melody progresses, a piano slips in, swelling the guitar – calm, soothing and elegant; then Taylor’s drums add a full-bodied tone to the track. It’s an anchor, yet continues on this sonic ebb and flow. Melodically, ‘We Are Chaos’ has a mystical movement as you sit around the campfire, chanting along, swaying and losing yourself in the moment. Add McKinley’s horns and the single drifts off with an alternative texture – bold and different, but simultaneously mellifluous and fragile.
Soft, gentle and honest, ‘We Are Chaos’ isn’t really chaotic at all. A kaleidoscopic swirl of emotion and sound, perhaps – particularly as McMahon’s fairy-like vocals dance across the tune – but chill and silky, removing the weight of the world from your shoulders.
