The Violet Nines – Baby (2022)

The Violet Nines are bringing a splash of funk with all its groovy energy to their contagious energy in ‘Baby’. Drawing on some retro 80s vibes, the single is packed with confidence and self-worth that leaves a warm lingering charm. To finish the single off, there are some driving basslines and lo-fi synths that truly transport you into another world.

This new world is brought to visual life through the band’s goofy 1980s exercise spoof music video. The pop-funk structure of the single is a change from some of the other music the band has released and shows that they have a lot to offer. So, if you are in the mood for a single that will get you grooving to the rhythm and having a retro blast, this is definitely the track for you.

‘Baby’ shimmers with retro vibes as the synths rise through the opening. There is a really great vibe to the music as it pulses gently through your chest. The groovy bassline thrums through your soul getting you to lightly bounce around to it. The interplay between the synths and bass is wonderful and hook you to the sound of the music. It is almost impossible to listen to this melody and not feel the urge to move around to the rhythm. The clapping adds a new texture to the sound, before the guitar bubbles. Through all this, the synths shimmer and shine with retro vibes that have you twirling around. Later in the track, there is a slight drop to the music before it swirls up again.

As the melody draws you into the retro tones, the vocals are packed with empowerment and positive vibes. From the first word, the vocal performance pushes the good vibes into your veins. There is a touch of cynicism woven into the lyrics as they delve into a night out and the approaches that many people take to get the attention of others. Through the empowerment of the lyrics, there is a subtle hit out at people who sometimes come on too hard, even when the answer is clearly no. The catchy flow of the vocals makes you want to sing along, while turning up the volume to increase the good time you are having.

The Violet Nines have you grooving to their retro-infused sound in ‘Baby’ as they fill you with empowerment and take a subtle dig at certain people. The music is packed with retro tones that take you back to the 80s with the shimmer of the synths. The vocals have a great energy to them as they hook you to the catchy lyrics and make you want to sing along.
