Track of the Day: Filip Dahl – Flying High (2026)
Should you not have heard of singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Filip Dahl, don’t fret, you’re about to discover this high-quality, naturally talented musician. Based in Norway, Dahl began his career back in the 70s, performing as lead guitarist in various rock bands before becoming a record producer and engineer. A couple of decades later, Dahl took a hiatus from music, but his passion ensured he wasn’t gone forever. In 2016, he returned as a solo artist, and skipping ahead about 10 years, he founded his family band project, Transcending Into The Unknown. Hop to 2026, and Dahl hits our ears with his new instrumental single, ‘Flying High’.
Okay, that was a brief (very brief) look at Dahl’s history, but today we’re looking at the present with ‘Flying High’. Following his single ‘Learning To Breathe Again’, ‘Flying High’ is just over four minutes of dynamic, rock-inspired, guitar-driven music with a breath of yesteryear washing over modern-day ears. A sound I might compare to David Gilmour and Eric Clapton with raw, melodic rhythm and emotion dripping from each riff, Dahl has the power of yesteryear’s rock greats, but with a distinction that is entirely his own.
Not the biggest fan of instrumentals, I wasn’t sure whether I would enjoy ‘Flying High’. I’m glad I took the chance, though, because it’s the best four minutes of today. Soothing, chilled-out, and very calming, Dahl walks you through a sonic forest, holding your hand, and with every guitar chord, prompts another step into the enchanted wood. No need for words, and in fact, no need for any other instruments; ‘Flying High’ is something that will leave you flying high.
So, my overall opinion? For me and the rest of this household, ‘Flying High’ is the perfect breath of air after a very long week. Highly recommended!
In addition to the single, Filip Dahl released an official music video for ‘Flying High’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
