Praveen Koval – Handprint (2026)
With a penchant for telling stories, singer-songwriter and filmmaker Praveen Koval shares emotional tales through various media. While we have a look and listen to his music, US-based Koval embraces cinema, tapping into the visual side of creative expression, captivating audiences and leaving a lasting impression. As a musician, he doesn’t necessarily stick to a tried-and-tested genre, but saunters across several styles, connecting with the best sound for that particular story. His back catalogue, at least on Spotify, takes us back to 2020 with the single ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’. Today, we take on his most recent single, ‘Handprint’.
Following his 2024 single ‘Alone’, ‘Handprint’ is Koval’s first release in two years. A self-produced single, ‘Handprint’ is a song from Koval’s heart; a labour of love with personal, intimate lyrical and melodic wrappings. As with ‘Alone’, the new track is cinematic and ethereal, with waves of synths sweeping across the soundscape. A single beat, something representing a drip of water on a silky lake, keeps you intrigued throughout the track. Yet, as wistful as the cinematic ambience is, this beat joins with a brush of drumbeats quickly dancing and fluttering across, inserting some pop-flavoured tinges to ‘Handprint’.
Melodically, ‘Handprint’ is the perfect soundtrack to those empowering, hopeful films boosting the joyful optimism of resilience; a step out of the darkness toward brighter lights. Lyrically and thematically, it is as weighty. Koval explains:
“We spend so much of our lives looking outward for answers, for direction, for meaning. But somewhere along the way, we realise that what we’re searching for has always been within us. ‘Handprint’ is about that moment of clarity when you understand that your fate, your path, and your story are in your own hands. No matter where you are in life, your story matters, and it is yours to write.”
In addition to the single, Praveen Koval released an official music video for ‘Handprint’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
