Track of the Day: John Arter – Homegirl (2026)
While John Arter began his career as a solo artist, releasing his debut EP, Dark Country, in 2024, little did he know his musical journey would take a side road beyond a solo project. In August 2025, he formed John Arter & The Eastern Kings with musician Mike Sting, a duo that “walks the line between intimacy and catharsis, pairing poetic introspection with anthemic flair.” Known for their expansive live sound, the band turned heads internationally and quickly became a force in the UK Americana scene. Today, John Arter turns our heads as we delve into his most recent single, ‘Homegirl’.
Following the well-received singles ‘That Other Time’ and ‘Oh My’, ‘Homegirl’ is the third single leading toward Arter’s upcoming album, SMALL WONDER. Produced by Mike Sting and Arter, ‘Homegirl’ finds the line between melodic simplicity and unknowingly intricate delivery. Barebones is a way, Arter plays a warm acoustic guitar like he were sitting in the kitchen just enjoying the strumming as everyone smiles and taps along. Sting’s xylophone lilts across with its harmonic, silky, light-hearted beat, like the other guy fiddling about to this endearing song.
Sparse and bare, but cleverly arranged so you feel the music and sit at that kitchen table to enjoy the camaraderie of the players; a drag to the live moment instead of listening on a streaming platform. Vulnerable and fragile, but with confidence and a comfortable caress, Arter’s rich vocals capture the heart of folk storytelling, exploring wanderlust and the desire to see the world while remaining safely in your comfort zone. Arter explains:
“‘Homegirl’ is a song about wanderlust lived from the page: the ache to see the world, the places we escape to when we read, and the deeper pull of home that waits beneath it all. It holds that tension between adventure and belonging, between the romance of elsewhere and the quiet truth of where you are most yourself…”
Sincere, sentimental, engaging and touching without even trying, ‘Homegirl’ is the song to calm a moment and enjoy the story.
