The Other Side Reviewstrack of the day

Track of the Day: Los Inconformes – RRRatas

Known for their high-energy and enthusiastic performances, the Puerto Rican group Los Inconformes merges various genres to create a unique, inspiring sound. The fusion of rock, rap, punk, funk and reggae make them pioneers in the ska music scene. Leading bands of the rock movement in Puerto Rico, the band has performed with The Toasters, Mephiskapheles and Voodoo Glow Skull, and toured extensively through their home country. Featured on Less Than 1000 Followers, Thoughts Words Action, Info Music, Indie Dock Music Blog, Rising Artists Blog and various radio stations, they are reaching listeners on a global scale. The latest addition to their well-received repertoire is the single ‘RRRatas’.

Described on Punk Rocker as a “slab of energetic, uplifting, danceable and entertaining”, Los Inconformes has a toe-tapping, heart-pumping sound. Taken off their album IV, an album that showcases their versatility in content, ‘RRRatas’ touches on the social and political circumstances of modern-day society. The punk rock melodic arrangement certainly represents the frustration of living in this uncertain day, particularly the screaming vocal execution.

While there is a strong punk rock influence on ‘RRRatas’, tinges of alternative rock can be heard in the arrangement. Distorted guitars meld effectively with the pounding guitars making it an overwhelming assault on the ears – but in a good way. Yet, the band’s true versatility is shown in the movement from powerful punk to a pop-inspired flamenco ending. Soft from hard, gentle from brash, Los Inconformes show they are more than a high-energy ska punk band.

Abrupt, angsty and absolutely awesome, Los Inconformes hits the notes of a good, no great song! This is my introduction to the band, but I am certain I will be coming back for more.
