Allan Jamisen – Closing In (2026)

Emotional, introspective, honest and relatable, singer-songwriter Allan Jamisen captures the core of human experience in his music. Moreover, its universal nature is heard in the innovative genre diversity. In other words, Allan Jamisen speaks to everyone, whether they prefer jazz or hard rock, and connects everything using themes that everyone can relate to. The US-based artist last hit our ears (not literally, of course) with the single ‘This Is Not An Act’. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Closing In’.

One element that stands out, at least for me, in Jamisen’s work is the vocals. Deep, gruff, and sometimes abrupt with a brash stance, yet has this odd soothing and calm. With ‘Closing In’, the bold vocals retain that unexpected bass, but vulnerability seems to exude far more than his other singles. The slip of female vocals, courtesy of Meaganlark, inserts a twinkling lightness and almost fairy-like quality, juxtaposing Jamisen’s darker, heavier musical masculinity.

Vocally, it’s a treat, oscillating between swimming happiness and pensiveness, and the melody carries the tones perfectly. Recorded and produced with Olivier Zahm and John X Volatis, ‘Closing In’ weaves soaring guitars with padded synths in a stream of alternative pop – a smidge of alternative rock rubbing across now and then. Obscure and a little obtuse, the arrangement is soothing, yet a veil of emotional poignancy binds everything.

The melody itself is intriguing, but the lyricism and theme are what ups the ante. Penned in 1997 after going through a divorce, the track was originally a “poem during the aftermath of a divorce and a period of profound introspection…” Yet, while the words were inspired by tragedy, its motivating reflection led to a period of empowerment and healing – the strange beauty of emotional collapse.

When listening to Jamisen’s discography, there is one thing, for lack of a better word, that stands out in all of his songs – connection. Whether it’s a song about broken relationships or dealing with past mistakes, all of his music is universally relatable, connecting in that way where you know you aren’t alone.
