Angelo Piana – Rive dell’Ire (2026)
Discovering his passion for music early in life, Angelo Piana began playing the piano at 9 years of age and pursued a journey to share classical music with international audiences. While he remains a classical pianist at first sight, listening to his music takes you on a sonic path through jazz, modern classical and ambient influences. A place for, in his words, “…seeking a balance between structure and freedom where the piano becomes a vehicle for atmosphere, reflection and storytelling.” The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Rive dell’Ire’.
Distinctive in his raw, authentic, and honest sound, the Italian pianist rejects the “…’muffled felt piano’ trend..”; real heartbreak and reflection can hardly be expressed through “…a layer of cloth”, so Piana chooses to have the piano breathe, sigh, scream and singe in ‘Rive dell’Ire’.
Self-produced, with mixing by Ady, ‘Rive dell’Ire’ follows the jazz-tinged track, ‘Mare Aperto’. While one can hear a fleck of Piana’s jazz influences peep out of ‘Rive dell’Ire’s melody, the single falls mostly in the realm of contemporary classical. Soothing and sincere, the track is a rollercoaster of sound oscillating from simple, peaceful tones to a crescendo of tumultuous waves, and a final petering out with a sense of relief, but also despair.
Known for his emotional compositions, ‘Rive dell’Ire’ is nothing less than an expressive rush of tender, passionate and intense intimacy. Somewhat melodramatic, you can imagine the pain of losing a love, falling into a mire of desperation, and seeing love disappear with a melancholy but empowering sensation. Perfectly capturing the core of raw emotion and complex romance, Piana explains:
“‘Rive dell’Ire’ (The Shorts Of Irene) is more than just a iano solo; it is a bridge built between two shores – Italy and Spain – and two souls separated by destiny. Dedicated to Irene, a woman who still holds a piece of my heart, the track explores the vulnerability of loss and the strength of memory. It is a song for anyone standing on the edge of a heartbreaking goodbye, watching the person they love remain on the opposite shore.”
