ARREN – Thinking About July (2026)

While we might not be able to attend one of ARREN’s live performances, merely listening to his music confirms the Irish artist’s confidence, energy, and pure skill to grab you with anthemic songs and an overall sense of “let’s get this party started”. ARREN is currently on his Thinking About July tour – check the dates here – but we’re taking the time to sit back and listen to the single. Considering the powerful presence and ear-catching demeanour in his online and live melodies, we might be dragged to a live show without leaving our armchairs. Join us as we delve into the latest release, ‘Thinking About July’.

Following the well-received 2025 EP Rising Sun, ‘Thinking About July’ is, as ARREN puts it, “…a fierce, uplifting anthem for anyone who likes their high-stakes romance with a side of boogie.” Brimming with duality in a sonic rollercoaster, the track moves from steady rock-tinged moments to a raucous wave of boogie-laden sound, then sweeps back down before petering off in a full, tumultuous, but smile-inducing bang. Produced by Gary Duncan, the soaring guitars hold your hand during the verses before scorching across the chorus: They’re met by a heavy bass line and anchoring drums, so you are lifted into the stratosphere yet remain firmly set on the ground.

An element that makes ‘Thinking About July’ exciting is the interspersed horns. A cheeky wink amidst the dance, leaving you grinning. Add ARREN’s rich, warm, almost honey-soaked but with a glimmer of grit vocals, and ‘Thinking About July’ hits all the boxes: confident and comfortable, soothing and rambunctious, light and dark, flowing but brash, dance-worthy but easy on the ears to enjoy from your armchair.

For me, ‘Thinking About July’ is fun; a lot of fun pounded into a sophisticated sonic wrapper. As a lead-up to ARREN’s debut album, Dark Earth, I plan to enjoy his current discography but am eager to hear more. I highly recommend you take a moment to allow this feisty, emotional, bright-eyed few minutes of fun to wash over you in a melodic wave.
