Bjartmar – Danger Zone (2021)

When we open ourselves up and allow ourselves to be vulnerable, we go through a moment where everything could go wonderfully or terribly. This moment of cosmic balance is something that Bjartmar has taken and turned into the dark pop single ‘Danger Zone’. Using dark and dreamy sounds, he merges melancholy with excitement to create the precipice we stand on when completely vulnerable and open to hurt.

Drawing on the influence of synthpop greats, he fuses rich vocal arrangements with sweeping melodies. Adding in lyrics that never shy away from honest and authentic self-exposure, Bjartmar faces situations and experiences that others move away from. This is something that has shaded his music since his first EP all the way to this release.

‘Danger Zone’ grabs your attention with a dark and vibrating bet that shivers through your chest. While this beat fills the low levels, the higher layers are almost ethereal in their delicacy. These two layers swirl together to create a creeping dark pop flow. There is an amazing richness to the track that sweeps through you for the chorus and an explosion of neon fireworks. The arrangement of the melody brings the balancing act of a moment of vulnerability to the soundscape beautifully. The higher tones are the potential for something wonderful while the beats hovering just out of sight is the potential for everything to go badly.

As the music creates the balance of a moment, Bjartmar’s vocals get your heart racing with the tension he brings into the opening line. Through his performance, you feel like you are in that moment when you don’t know which way things are going to go. When the chorus hits., his vocals get this wonderful melodic flow that you get swept up in. There is an infectious hook to his vocals on the chorus that makes you either want to sing along or close your eyes and fly with him. When his vocals drop for the verses, he brings the tension back only to lead you to the stunning chorus.

Bjartmar balance you in a moment of vulnerability while creating a delicate tension with his vocals in ‘Danger Zone’. The music brings dark and light together for a delightful balancing act that is picked up by the tension of the vocals. When the chorus hits, you are swept into the melodic movement for an exquisite listening experience.
