Cell Games – HELLWORLD (2026)
When considering the nu-metal genre, memories of Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit flutter through my mind. Chester Bennington’s scorching vocals and Fred Durst’s marked aggression were constants, turning inner turmoil into fist-pumping, head-whirling breaks of pure release. Skip ahead a couple of decades, and Cell Games takes on the UK nu-metal scene, reviving the sounds of yesteryear while forging ahead with a revolutionary style. The most recent addition to their discography is the single ‘HELLWORLD’.
Produced with Josh Sid Robinson, ‘HELLWORLD’ is a three-and-a-half-minute smash of sound coming at you at a million miles per hour. Niall O’Carroll opens the track with a pulsating kick drum introducing audiences to ‘HELLWORLD’; then, the thrashing drums meld into Deborah O’Brien’s pounding bass guitar and Triston Carroll’s scorching guitar. Whipping this way and that, flying and slicing, shifting and dicing, each instrument holds its own in a chaotic melody. While you hear the individuality, they also bind in harmonic unity, creating a rollercoaster effect, but with each playing a particular role, making this kaleidoscopic hurricane both intense and intimate.
Dancing across the tempest is Colin Foy’s vocals. He darts in and out, asserting his dominance with powerful shouts, but, as with each element, fits nicely to highlight the nu-metal angst of Cell Games. Bold, brash, abrasive and a little manic, ‘HELLWORLD’ is a full-bodied burst of sound, and it is the core theme and message that provokes the blistering mayhem. A sociopolitical commentary, Cell Games unpack the growing hate we find in the world – increasing xenophobia, racism, transphobia, religious bias, etc. The thing is, just as the commentary is laid bare, Cell Games also choose to see the more empowering side of facing these challenges. The band say about ‘HELLWORD’: “The name represents finding strength in your convictions… to use music to spread empathy, acceptance, and kindness in the face of negativity.”
In addition to the single, Cell Games released an official music video for ‘HELLWORLD’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
