DBsock – worse (2026)

Shenzhen/LA R&B art-pop artist DBsock drops her new track ‘worse’, which has an emotional and smooth groove. The lyrics cover emotional awareness without escape. A one-sided relationship with the other person not pulling their weight. It is brimming with gorgeous harmonies and layered vocals.

DBsock has a similar vibe to current superstar SZA, and if you want to search further back, 90’s R&B singers like Brandy and Mya. She delivers a passionate vocal on this really heart-wrenching tune.

A lovely but sombre clarinet starts proceedings, which gives an indication of the mood of the song. The lyrics are both articulate and authentic: “Stop paying with no effort no time / Don’t lie / Cause lying is contagious“. This is over a really powerful bassline that drives the song. The production is dense, and you can hear the emotion pouring out of DBsock’s vocals.

The sad, torturous lyrics continue when she sings: “just a little dead inside / Dead inside / Dead inside / Like I don’t own any love anymore”. This tells that the relationship has broken them to the extent that the love has gone. DBsock, however, doesn’t want any sympathy regarding her own experiences, which helped create the song. She explains: “I wasn’t interested in portraying myself as a victim. The song exists in that space of awareness without immediate escape. My producer and mixing engineer said that he felt really sad when he was working with my vocals, but I told him that I only remember feeling completely at peace. What I felt wasn’t sadness or denial, it was the intensity and depth of my emotions, without shame

‘worse’ is a highly polished, introspective track which captures the dynamic within a toxic relationship. The understanding that it may not be the best thing for you, but you’re unable to give it up. As the chorus declares: ” I feel worse when I think about you / And I get worse and I think about you’“. DBsock has produced an infectious, slow-paced R&B tune which a lot of people can relate to.
