Frank Joshua – Houston (2026)

Have you ever heard that statement, “Houston, we have a problem” – the famous transmission from the Apollo 13 space mission? A saying that implores that something’s gone wrong, whether it be horribly wrong or you’re just a little confused, “Houston, we have a problem” is iconic. Frank Joshua’s latest single, ‘Houston’, might not use the exact words, but it revolves around the complexities of a failing situation. Join us as we hit the play button and jump into ‘Houston’.

A regular feature on The Other Side Reviews, US-based Frank Joshua shares music that is tender and sincere, but also brash and affronting (in a good way). ‘Houston’ follows the dream-pop single ‘Glass’ and keeps the dreamy pop-tinged vibe; however, within the poppy sound, a folk-inspired style lingers – particularly in the whispery vocals. – showcasing Frank Joshua’s versatility and innovation.

Simplistic and bare-bones, ‘Houston’ is easy on the ears in its weave of calming guitars, drums and keys. From the outset, you find yourself tapping your toes, swaying along, and might begin humming even if you don’t know the tune just yet. No real brashness or fancy flairs, ‘Houston’ just sits with a comforting calm. Once again, Frank Joshua appears to be speaking to us, like a friend telling a story or having a conversation over a cup of tea.

The song is charming, but there is a profound poignancy within the track that adds weight. Frank Joshua shares that ‘Houston’ is “a song about regret, repetition and emotional recalibration. Built around the refrain, “Messed up in Houston, and I came around again”, ‘Houston explores fragility, identity and the slow clarity that follows misjudgement.”

So, does ‘Houston’ warrant the utterance of ”…we have a problem”? For me, not really; for you, only you can decide.
