Glam Sam And His Combo (ft. Angelina) – Fingertips (2026)
The brainchild of Swedish producer and composer Mats Smuelssson, Glam Sam And His Combo takes you on a whirlwind musical journey through blues, funk, soul, electronica and jazz. A genre-defying, versatile musical alchemist, Glam Sam shares his powerful concoctions with the world. While Glam Sam has been bringing his groovy beats for over 15 years, with his debut album dropping in 2009, at least according to Spotify, this is my first delving into Glam Sam’s discography. Late to the party, but better late than never, right? Join us as we look and listen to his new single, ‘Fingertips’.
The first single since his 2024 track, ‘The Challenge’, ‘Fingertips’ doesn’t necessarily lean toward a pivot in Glam Sam’s work, but it is something different. Joining forces with UK singer-songwriter Angelina Grimshaw, ‘Fingertips’ is the first of possibly several collaborations between these two. Well, this track precedes the second collaborative song, ‘Runaway Trains (The Riviera Jazz Groove)’.
Taken from the pair’s striking new album, Talkin’ In Colour, ‘Fingertips’ is a few minutes of soulful jazz, walking you through a multi-coloured forest of sound. Like trees reaching out with embracing branches, a concoction of drums, bass and guitar set a soothing jazz vibe. However, just as you walk through this warm, comfortable melody – enhanced by Angelina’s honey-soaked vocals – horns slide across like an imp running through the trees. Interestingly, while Angelina dominates with her rich voice, Glam Sam’s spoken vocals kick in, adding an amusing charm to the track.
A song brimming with jazzy grooves and rhythm, ‘Fingertips’ slaps a smile on your face, or at least mine. It is familiar and nostalgic, but there is a contemporary edginess that lingers in the musical waves. While the melody is intriguing and can keep you captivated, it is the lyricism and theme that add some weightiness to the track. Glam Sam explains, “This… piece became a deeply personal tribute to Angelina’s late father, artist Johnny Grimshaw… the track invites listeners into the immersive world of art and memory…”
