KATIA POJIDAEVA – Inherited Scars (2026)
With only one track to her name, one might consider singer-songwriter KATIA POJIDAEVA a new artist in the industry; a minnow lost in a mass of sharks. However, while she might be relatively new to the scene, she is by no means an ignored minnow. One of those shiny minnows that flit about and you can’t help but pay attention – that’s KATIA POJIDAEVA. Join us as we sit back, hit the play button, and jump headfirst into ‘Inherited Scars’.
Self-composed, penned and produced, ‘Inherited Scars’ is a few minutes of dark alternative rock with lilts of melodic metal whispering in the skin-tingling music. Haunting and ethereal, there is an enigmatic quality to the tune – almost fairy-like or a siren drawing you to crash on the rocks. Yet, while a strong haunting gives you the chills, a harmonic unity carries you along this rollercoaster ride of dark music. Crashing drums pound in the background, while a bold bass anchors the track, a hypnotic guitar soars across the tune, and a piano pierces the track, shimmering in the background but simultaneously tearing at your heart.
The melody is intriguing, almost like travelling across a glistening sonic river – some moments calm, but mostly a tumultuous pounding of waves inspired by heavy, raw music. For me, it is POJIDAEVA’s vocals that enhance a sense of mystique. An obscure alto dancing atop the song, almost like Amy Lee, but not in the same register.
Sincere and hypnotic, ‘Inherited Scars’ melody perfectly aligns with the poignant theme. POJIDAEVA explains: “The single, ‘Inherited Scars’, is a dark, heavy dive into generational trauma, breaking family cycles, and the pain of emotional separation.”
Forceful and confident, but vulnerable and lost, ‘Inherited Scars’ is highly recommended. I am eager to hear more from this Russian beauty and hope she hasn’t hit her peak with the debut.
