Kevin Driscoll – Someday Got Away (2026)
Have you ever found yourself reminiscing on past experiences and wondering “what if”? Those moments of deep contemplation when you replay in your mind’s eye those moments you didn’t embrace, the path you could have taken, and how your life would be if you had taken those opportunities. Singer-songwriter Kevin Driscoll draws on this timeless, universal theme in his new single, ‘Someday Got Away’.
Co-penned with singer-songwriter Moira Chicilo, ‘Someday Got Away’ is a look at yesteryear but also a poetic unfolding of a journey. The opening line, “If we knew then, what we know now”, sets the scene for a tale of poignant reflection as the song continues to delve into scenes, places, thoughts and possibilities – all lost in the “what if”. The final line, “But someday got away, got away from us”, deliberately stamps that wistful sense of “well, we can’t look back” – positive or negative, regret or a lesson, you decide.
Lyrically, the tune is intriguing, but melodically, it heightens with emotion. Produced by Richard Dudley, with mastering and mixing by Jeremiah Johnson, ‘Someday Got Away’ is a solid folk song. A steady drum beats in the background, while Driscoll drives the tune with an acoustic guitar; simple, easy with a charming flow, but simultaneously dark and heavy. A shimmering wave of synths offers a soothing groove, adding a silkiness to the bold folk sound.
For me, it is not the melody that turns my head or catches my attention; it is Driscoll’s deep vocals. Executed in an almost conversational way, reminiscent of Leonard Cohen, one might imagine Driscoll to be strumming his guitar in front of the fireplace, staring into the flames, and just remembering. Driscoll mentions that he ”…writes songs the way some people keep journals; quietly, late at night, chasing the truth inside a single line”; ‘Someday Got Away’ is a perfect expression of this sentiment.
In addition to the single, Kevin Driscoll released an official music video for ‘Someday Got Away’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
