Lina Hrams & Jonathan Quasar – Fine (2026)
Introspective, innovative and somewhat obscure, Lina Hrams and Jonathan Quasar combine their musical skills, delivering sounds that are honest and experimental. On one hand, we have singer-songwriter Lina Hrams with her soulful vocals and emotional lyrics; on the other hand, we have Jonathan Quasar with his electronic production and focus on polished but simultaneously raw textures. While each is a distinctive figure in their respective musical realms, the pair merge their diversity through shared creativity. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Fine’.
Following ‘Maybe It’s Love’ and ‘Ticket’, ‘Fine’ is the third offering from this collaborative project pairing ”…restrained rhythmic framework with a stoic vocal delivery… to pull you entirely into another realm.” Slow and cinematic, ‘Fine’ is a solid trip-hop single fusing downtempo electronic sounds with a moody, melancholic vibe. Yet, amidst the darkness of downtempo samples, there is an interspersed string of lighter beats twinkling in veiled plucks. Synths waver around the edges, but the deliberate vocals give off an earthier, urban vibe.
‘Fine’ is obscure, off-kilter, and even obtuse. Its avant-garde sensibilities make it stand out as something entirely unique, but the pop-inspired lilts give it a refreshingly familiar groove. Dualistic, its sparseness brings barebones vulnerability; then again, there is an engulfing drag in the almost echoing melody. Attention-grabbing, it’s hard to tear yourself away from this intriguing tune, and the way it expresses the song’s concept is exceptional. The pair explain:
”…In a state of inner silence and emotional acceptance… subtle dramatic tension creates the feeling of wandering through a sleepless city where sadness unexpectedly turns into light. ‘Fine’ feels both intimate and expansive, like the soundtrack to the moment when a person finally becomes honest with themselves.”
So, what is my overall opinion of ‘Fine’? It’s not a song to make you feel fine, but in the same breath it is. In its oddness, it leaves a tingle of uncertainty, although there is an ebb and flow in that disquieting sensation. Overall, I rather enjoy it and hope to hear more from this dynamic duo.
