Lindsay Reamer – Lucky (2021)

Quieting those inner voices that want to bring us down can be a challenge, but there is nothing better than the feeling when you start to win. Lindsay Reamer has taken the turn in the battle tide and crafted ‘Lucky’. The single considers what blossoms in the space that fear and doubt inhabited when you start to win your internal battle against them.

The single comes off her EP of the same name and gives you a wonderful insight into what the debut EP has to hold. While she was raised by two musicians, Reamer only recently started to regularly write her own music. Using the skills she has been honing over the year, she has created a cautiously optimistic track that fills you with blooming sense of light.

The pumping beats that open ‘Lucky’ get a layer of seriously rich synths that soften their pounding against your ears. There is a chillwave feeling to the music as the synths wash over you in waves. The thickness of the music givers you a sense of sinking into a battling mental space. While there is a sense of this mental space, there is also a feeling of something good breaking through the soundscape. This is subtly done through the lighter tones that pick their way through the river of synths that you are floating on.

Reamer’s vocals add a dreamy vibe to the single with a hazy delivery. You feel like her vocals are coming through a heavy atmosphere but this only enhances the mental soundscape created by the melody. The haziness of the vocals also draws you into the lyrics that detail the self-doubt and fear we all easily sink into. After pulling you into the negativity of life, the lyrics give you a push to overcome them. This matches the blossoming of the melody as you are pulled from the darkness and into the light of strength and empowerment.

Lindsay Reamer captures the moment when you start to win the battle against self-doubt and fear in the dreamy soundscape of ‘Lucky’. While the single draws you into relatable negativity, it also blooms with the brightness of starting to overcome these dark emotions. The easy flow of the music has you floating on a river of synths before giving you the strength you need to win your internal battles.
