Liz Nash – Livin’ Like A Local (2026)

Capturing the heart of reality in small melodic bites, singer-songwriter Liz Nash unpicks life with all its good and bad bits. With each song, Nash explains that “they’re little slices of life” with deep narratives to shape the present, embrace the arc of life, and celebrate the best of being. We came across Nash last year with her single, ‘Little Heart Attacks’, and immediately fell into her well of melodic sincerity, joy and optimism. Today, we take another step into her musical adventure with ‘Livin’ Like A Local’.

The fourth track off her upcoming album, Florida Songs – an album that “consists of storytelling songs that celebrates the people, places and culture of the sunshine state” – ‘Livin’ Like A Local’ explores human connection, relationships, and, well, being a newbie in a strange, different, scary new place. Nash explains:

“I was coming up with song ideas and sharing them with a super talented songwriter I know. I was explaining a concept of a song and said, “You know, living like a local.” She said, “Liz, that’s it! Living like a local!”. So, I wrote about what it is to live like a local here in Florida. The main character of the song is an out-of-towner who doesn’t know how to live like a local, but how we’re happy to show what it’s like.”

Nodding her head to a Paul Simon influence, ‘Livin’ Like A Local’ adopts a strong organic flavour in the sweep of folk rock-driven music. Recorded and produced across Florida and California, the track joins vocalist and guitarist Nash with Paul Gonzalez (percussion), Oskar Cartaya (bass), and John Marsden (piano), finding the line between sophisticated maturity and almost youthful innocence.

From the outset, Nash has you tapping your toe, swaying along, beginning to smile, and just feeling good. Drums and percussion beat in the background, while a bold bass keeps the pace. A shimmering piano whispers across the melody, while the guitar soars in a warm, tender manner. What I find intriguing is how the song is equally warm and amusing, but with odd sarcasm, teasing, and also inviting you to the humour of Florida.

In addition to the single, Liz Nash released an official music video for ‘Livin’ Like A Local’. You can view it below and/or on her YouTube channel.
