Maelydée – Sanzaru (2026)
Innovative, honest and sincere, singer-songwriter Maelydée unpicks raw human emotion with engaging melodies. Using critical but poetic lyricism to express vulnerable but assured experiences, the French-Canadian artist shifts between dark and light, sophistication and ruggedness, innocence and maturity with prose that is ”…truly in her own image – beautifully full of contradictions.” This is our introduction to Maelydée, but she has been reaching audiences for several years already. For instance, she has topped radio stations like SiriusXM, received the SOCAN Foundation’s Young Canadian Songwriters Award, received global critical acclaim, and has a growing international fanbase. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Sanzaru’.
Following her 2023 EP SORTIE, ‘Sanzaru’ is Maelydée’s first release in three years, and is the first track from her upcoming sophomore EP, scheduled for release in 2027. Produced with Frederick Leblanc, with additional mixing by Jean-Etienne Collin Marcoux and mastering by Benoit Fecteau, ‘Sanzaru’ binds the charm and distinction of French chanson with lilts of jazz – the sultriness of Sade entwined with the classiness of French prose. Hushed and silky, Maelydée drags you into a haze of enigmatic sound; however, while intricacy exists, there is simplicity and steadiness in the overall production.
Cleverly layering Leblanc’s soaring guitar with Maelydée’s synths and a bold beat in the background, ‘Sanzaru’ has a well-structured sound. Yet, keeping with her distinctive ambiguity and obscurity, the track explores the uncertainty of society with a groovy rhythm and smooth vocals. Maelydée notes that ‘Sanzaru’ is ”…an alt-pop bop exploring voluntary numbness in the face of modern chaos…. it revisits the symbolism of the three wise monkeys… with a disillusioned lucidity and irresistible verve.”
In addition to the single, Maelydée released an official music video for ‘Sanzaru’. You can view the video below and/or on her YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
