Track of the Day: tcr! – Yesterday Blurs (2026)

Self-described as a “Gen Xer who writes, plays, records, and mixes all the things…” tcr! brings contrary, emotional music to the masses. Over the past two years, the Chicago-based singer-songwriter has nostalgically leaned toward old-school grunge and indie-rock, but also brought an air of hard rock to people’s ears with songs like ‘Five Minutes To Cicero’. A shiver of punk ambled across his discography with the 2025 album, dead at fifty-six. 2025 closed with a glance of retro punk and indie-rock in Reve Sexton made demos, and then tcr! stomped into 2026 with his EP, Dear Rabbits. Today, we join his international audience turning the volume up on this four-track release, particularly the song, ‘Yesterday Blurs’.

From the first second of the title track to the final moments of ‘We Were Strange’, Dear Rabbits is, well, slightly unhinged. It leans heavily on the grittier side of vintage grunge with a dark, almost palpable sense of tension bound in an intoxicating gloom. Heavy, hard-hitting, and bursting with both ferocity and a brooding misery, Dear Rabbits is not made for the light-hearted nor ones searching for a bouncy melodic ambience. Yet, within the tracks, ‘Yesterday Blurs’ stands tall with its own bright light shining despite its deceptive darkness.

A brutally honest exposition of the dynamics in a toxic relationship, Dear Rabbits doesn’t mince words, with raw emotion oozing through the melodies. ‘Yesterday Blurs’, however, is not one of the tragic experiences or intricacies; it’s an empowering one, telling us that the protagonist is really okay. tcr! explains:

“The track explores memory, resentment, psychological fragmentation, and emotional self-preservation with stark simplicity. The title phrase itself, “yesterday blurs but it’s not dismissed”, becomes the emotional thesis of the song. Time may soften detail, but it doesn’t erase emotional consequence.”

Combining Kenny Tipton and Matthias Downing’s sliding guitars with Ian Murray’s bold bass, and Adrian McBrain’s powerful drums, ‘Yesterday Blurs’ is a melodic grunge symphony. For me, however, it is Rob Dickinson’s hard vocals that give the track a sharper, more emphatic and decisive feeling.
