Metagirl & The Earth Passengers – Fire It Up (2026)

Self-described as “Buzzcocks meet The Specials, with touches of REM and Kim Deal in the mix”, US-based band Metagirl & The Earth Passengers are feisty, defiant, and all-around inspiring in their boldness. Hailing from Brooklyn, to be precise, the group are led by frontperson Erica Rowell, but each brings their own unique flair to the zealous project. Turning heads across the board, Metagirl & The Earth Passengers have received international critical acclaim, performed at notable venues, and continue to win hearts. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘Fire It Up’.

Hot on the heels of the well-received single, ‘I Don’t Care’, Rowell (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Robert Resnick (lead guitar and backing vocals), Deb Stuppiello (bass guitar), Tony Stuppiello (drums), Andy Newcomb (keyboards) and Michele Smith (percussion and backing vocals), draw together their talents in a boisterious yet rhythmic rush of music. Produced by multiplatinum Grammy award-winner Adros Rodriguez, ‘Fire It Up’ slides across the realms of indie-rock with a strong ska flavour.

Upbeat, bouncy, and the track you can easily imagine a sold-out crowd jumping and pumping their fists in the air. ‘Fire It Up’ retains your attention from the outset, right to the absolute end. A pulsating drum keeps the pace, while a bold bass beats along. A rhythm guitar slithers across the tune, while percussion gently peeps out from the sonic brush. The keyboards shimmer, but it is the soaring guitar that acts as the imp dancing in the toe-tapping tune.

Energetic and rambunctious, Rowell’s vocals lead you through ‘Fire It Up’ with confidence, authority, and a smiling, intriguing, honey-soaked richness. The melody itself is fun and lively, but it is the empowering, hopeful theme that gives it juice. Metagirl & The Earth Passengers explain:

’Fire It Up’ is about resilience in genuinely difficult times – refusing to give up when things feel stubbornly broken. The song offers no easy comfort. “Don’t get fed up”, it urges. Things might not always get better, but sometimes they do.”
