Pocket Lint – Cyanometer (2026)

Imagine the scenario: a man sitting on his balcony in the summer of 2024 with a piece of sandpaper in one hand and an amethyst in the other, trying to craft cameos. Skip ahead three weeks and, after a great deal of toil, sore hands and a growing pile of purple powder, the man nods his head and bows to the inevitable, heading to a recording studio. The guy is UK-based singer-songwriter Mark Heffernan, and the project is Pocket Lint.

Describing his music as “concept-driven noir-pop… scattered with found sounds”, ‘Cyanometer’ is a drag to the 1980s. With twinkling synths backed by a drum machine, ‘Cyanometer’ is a walk into a synth-pop soundscape; a rush of air sweeping across your face with an odd, obscure, almost ethereal effect. As much as the melody is airy and bright, shimmering guitars slice in the background, giving it a textured, polished, yet simultaneously raw and vulnerable effect.

Produced by Adam Whittaker, ‘Cynometer’ is sophisticated with an enigmatic elegance coming from both the melody and Heffernan’s wistful vocals. The thing is, while the song can wash across in a whimsical haze, the lyricism is a little more reflective. Heffernan explains:

“This song, ‘Cyanometer’, is the first song from my new album, Wunderkammer… The new album is based around the idea of a “wunderkammer” or cabinet of curiosities, and each song is an exhibit within that collection… This song is about an object that measures the amount of blue inside a person.”

This is my introduction to Pocket Lint, and the ethereal chill with calm comfort of ‘Cyanometer’ is a welcome one. I look forward to the upcoming album.

In addition to the single, Mark Heffernan released an official music video for ‘Cyanometer’. You can view the video below and/or on Pocket Lint’s YouTube channel.
