Hailey Hermida – 17 (2026)

Using music as an escape from the Covid pandemic, finding a place of solace, Hailey Hermida finds a comfortable place in music. At age 13, she found a love for 902/2002 rock music, exploring Avril Lavigne, Paramore and Weezer with her friends, and soon using her passion for music to begin writing songs. Jump ahead a few years, and Hermida is turning heads with her pop-punk-driven singles, quickly earning a reputation for raw, honest and emotional melodies. The latest release on her discography is the single, ‘17’.

Produced with Riley Urick with co-writer Onique Williams, ‘17’ is a pivot of sorts from old-school, angrier Paramore to not necessarily lighter, but grittier, heavier, tinged with a slap of 90s grunge tones ala Bikini Kill. With the crashing drums, bold bass, scorching guitars and Hermida’s forceful vocals, ‘17’ is the slap in your face and punch in the gut encapsulating raw frustration, rage and unbridled angst.

Made for the mosh pit, the song has an urgency that needs to escape with rambunctious frenzy – and it really does. Standing in the middle of the room screaming at the top of your lungs, ‘17’ is not merely a powerful punk-driven tune, but that moment for blatant escapism. Hermida explains:

“‘17’ was written as a release of anger from the overwhelming judgment cast on you at that age, all while you are at your most vulnerable. 17 is a weird age. Life feels more serious. You make mistakes trying to fill the role of the adult you’re expected to act as, despite still being so young. To make it all more confusing, emotions run ten times heavier and harder… So when someone makes false claims about your character, it cuts deep. For me, I felt angry and frustrated. This song is an angry emotional response… I hope when people listen to this song, it feels like an exhale. Like a release of pent-up energy and emotion.”
