Proklaim – BAD TING (2024)

Known for his powerful melodies and bold lyricism, singer-songwriter Proklaim weaves profoundness and depth through tantalizing tunes. We discovered Proklaim last year with the revolutionary ‘REASON 2 BELIEVE’ where he sparked the concept of “carpe diem” in listener’s souls. From ‘STARFALL’ to ‘POPPIN’, the encouragement to make a change and take control of your life oozes from the hard-hitting soundscape. Come with us as we delve into another of Proklaim’s inspirational singles, ‘BAD TING’.

Following his well-received tracks, ‘BUM’, ‘STARFALL’ and ‘POPPIN’, the Namibia-based artist continues his musical journey of encouragement and hopefulness with ‘BAD TING’. Recorded at Pen Pushaz Studio and refined at Audio Art Namibia with mixing and mastering, ‘BAD TING’ reaches further into an Afrobeat vibe as compared to previous material. Like ‘POPPIN’, the influence of 90s rapper Tupac is evident. Yet, alongside the hip-hop tone is something far more soothing, and smoother with a gentle intertwining of Lauryn Hill and The Fugees.

The gentler sounds of RnB run through ‘BAD TING’; however, it is the West African Afrobeat that brings uniqueness to the single. A clip of harder rap layered with soothing RnB encased by the traditional upbeat tone of Africa, ‘BAD TING’ reaches across the genre divide and appeals to audiences of various styles.

Proklaim’s unique composition is, once again, easy to listen to and breathes kaleidoscopic life into dreary times. A brightly-coloured tribute to the better side of society helping you out of the grit and grime. Proklaim explains:

“The song is a feel-good summer anthem with an underlying message… it’s a song representative of a celebration of life and purpose and music and the inspiration thereof…”

Intoxicating and confident, listening to Proklaim’s music is like being hit in the face with a rush of bombastic sonic wind. Not a bad blast at all; rather a rejuvenating one to encourage joviality and the “bring it on” feeling. Proklaim shares that he likes to write – “it’s an endorphin rush”, and this is entirely evident in his music, particularly with the most recent ‘BAD TING’.
