Tabitha Zu – Heard It Before (2026)

While the 90s brought us bands like Nirvana, Hole, The Cranberries, and Radiohead (although a couple were formed in the 1980s), there is a mass of musicians who defined the underground scene but didn’t see the turn of the century. One of these was Tabitha Zu, a force to be reckoned with, but one that might fade into the mists a few decades on. Stop! No! Wait! The lads and lady of Tabitha Zu refuse to go swiftly into that dark night. Hitting the digital world with re-released versions of their iconic songs, the UK trio brings their hard-hitting sound to a new world of listeners. The latest on their discography is ‘Heard It Before’.

Capturing the group at their most direct, raw and visceral, ‘Heard It Before’ follows the re-release of their 1992 single ‘On Reality’. Produced by Dave Wooster with mixing by Derek Birkett, ‘Heard It Before’ is a rush of grunge music washing over you with a breathtaking sweep of nostalgia. Jon Hamilton’s crashing drums lie alongside Phil Stevenson’s bold bass, as Hamilton’s guitar soars, swerves and scorches the melody. Grunge at its greatest, it’s the song that simultaneously swoons and punches you between the eyes while you lose yourself in the sonic whirlpool.

Melodically, it’s a fresh breath of grunge-filled air jumping at you from yesteryear. For me, Melanie Garside’s vocals add the something-something every tune should have. Sweet and rich, but with a ruggedness that bites and weaves into the track.

‘Heard It Before’ is not just a song; it’s the sonic equivalent of that vodka shot you shouldn’t have had the night before, but it’s totally worth the hangover!

In addition to the single, Tabitha Zu released an official music video for ‘Heard It Before’.
