Sam Platts – Right Where I Belong (2026)
Singer-songwriter Sam Platts discovered his passion for music at a young age after watching his father play in local bands. It was there and then that the young lad from Saratoga, Wyoming, knew he was destined to pursue the life of a musician. Along his musical journey, Platts toured extensively with the country group Wylie and The Wild West, gaining international acclaim and experience; it was also during this time that he met his fiddle-playing wife, Lilly. Searching for a “more robust scene and a closer connection to traditional country music…”, the couple picked up and relocated to Texas. Eager to bring old-school country to modern-day audiences, Platts began sharing his music with the masses, gaining a following far beyond his Texan borders. The most recent addition to his discography is the single ‘Right Where I Belong’.
Following his single ‘High Country’, ‘Right Where I Belong’ is three minutes of pure, rich, raw country music. Warm and comfortable, the single weaves together an acoustic guitar with shimmering percussion, underlying drums hushed in the background, and Lilly’s fiddle adding the charm of an unfiltered country sing-song. The main draw of ‘Right Where I Belong’, at least for me, is Sam Platts’ vocals. Grit and gruff, with the quintessential twang, you are transported to one of those Western festivals or an intimate dancehall soaking up every Stetson-wearing, boot-tapping country sound.
Melodically, ‘Right Where I Belong’ will fit perfectly in an episode of Bonanza or Laramie when the ranchers step out with charming bows and cheeky smiles. Lyrically, however, it’s weightier, with the message enhancing the track’s full-bodied nature. Platts explains: “I wrote ‘Right Where I Belong’ during our transition between Montana and Texas. It’s a look at leaving home in pursuit of the next step while keeping a strong sense of place.”
Sincere, sentimental, honest and brimming with refreshing familiarity, ‘Right Where I Belong’ is just in time for my Friday night binging of old-school Westerns. With the promise of an upcoming full-length album, I am eager to hear more from Sam Platts.
