Samantha LaPorta – Flora-Bama (2026)

Creating a “soundscape for your soul”, singer-songwriter Samantha LaPorta delves into the grittier parts of life with tender, heartfelt, intimate music. Delving into existential issues of great significance, both to LaPorta and society, her songs tap into the intricacies of mental health, suicide prevention, and anti-bullying – like reading a diary entry that should probably remain secret. Yet, by throwing those issues wide open, the US-based musician offers solace, understanding, and that feeling of not being alone to international audiences. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Flora-Bama’.

Following her well-received single ‘Act Naturally’, ‘Flora-Bama’ brims with contemporary pop, but with a nostalgic lean to the noughties neo-soul sound. Produced by Ash Minor and Julie Ross, with mastering by Roark Bailey, the single is husky and sultry; within the heavy sonic mist you find small windows of refreshing but vulnerable air. A soothing brush of drums offers an anchor in the mist, while a guitar deliberately pierces the melody but not in a bad way. It’s like cheeky finger-picking dotting the air with mischievous charm.

Slightly overwhelming with a palpable sense of suffocation bearing down on your chest, ‘Flora-Bama’ is simultaneously an easy listen and something darker, deeper, and more profound. Add LaPorta’s silky vocals, and you have a bright light shining through the fog; teasing you, tempting you, and inviting you to come along on an intimate journey through her innermost thoughts. LaPorta explains: “’Flora-Bama’ is more than a place – it’s a state of mind. Where neon lights blur into moonlit nights, creating a song that lingers… where salty meets sultry.”

Reminiscent of artists like Amy Winehouse, Lana Del Rey and Florence Welch, Samantha LaPorta and her song ‘Flora-Bama ’ are skin-tingling, intoxicating and a definite break in a sometimes stagnating alternative-pop scene. Highly recommended!
