Dara Dubh – Push/Pull (not falling for you) (2026)

Pushing the boundaries of the harp, musician Dara Dubh brings the edginess, emotion, and underlying energy of a classical instrument to contemporary audiences. Finding the sweet spot between ”…heartfelt confession and a good kick up the road”, intimacy and intensity find wings with Dubh’s genre-diverse sound – all while you sit back and soak up the enchanting vibe. According to Spotify, Scotland-based Dubh has been turning heads for a few years, beginning with her 2023 single, ‘Where Do You Go?’; as I said, this is according to Spotify, so don’t quote me. Our introduction to Dara Dubh is a bit late, but better late than never, they always say. Join us as we begin our journey with her 2026 single, ‘Push/Pull (not falling for you)’.

Following her EP, Chrysalis, ‘Push/Pull (not falling for you) is Dubh’s first step into 2026 and the first taste of her upcoming debut album, Go Like Crazy Big Moon. An album that ”… explores a distinctive blend of alternative folk, with a range of genres from bossa nova to punk, and contemporary bardic lyricism…” Produced by Marty Hailey, ‘Push/Pull (not falling for you)’ showcases not only Dubh’s diversity, but presents a pivotal turn or evolution in her sound, flying at you with a nostalgic hip-hop arrangement.

While Dubh’s harp is prominent in ‘Push/Pull (not falling for you)’ with its sparkling twinkles, sweet twangs, and delicate vulnerability oozing from the strings, this is not what drives the single. Yes, she oscillates from fragility to ferocity with the harp; however, the keys and drums offer an anchor in the tune. It’s like the drums and keys sweep you along in a sonic flood as you simultaneously tread water and float in its soundscape.

Harmonic and rhythmic, ‘Push/Pull (not falling for you)’ has an orchestral obscurity, weaving the elegant with edgy abrasiveness melodically and vocally. Dubh’s sweet vocals lean toward a hip-hop-tinged rap, but the chorus showcases her silvery voice alongside a plucked harp. Piercing and brash, it’s like she’s not necessarily having a conversation, but sitting back and telling you about the intricacies of relationships; the complexities of falling for someone; and the bad girl attitude brimming with empowerment, sincerity and power.

So, overall opinion of Dara Dubh? Different, intriguing, and someone I highly recommend to everyone!
