Sour Bridges – Big City (2026)

From backyard jams late at night to sold-out stages with audiences pumping their fists along to the music, Sour Bridges is a US-based foursome known for confidence, energy and intriguing infectiousness. Technically formed in 2010 by brothers Matt and Bill Pucci, Sour Bridges began as a “rural transplant taking buses to gigs and has evolved into an artist who embodies the intersection of authenticity, ambition, and grit…” Joined by Will Vaughan (bass and vocals) and Marc Randal Henry (drums and percussion), the band makes their mark with a unique brand of Americana and folk based in a roots-rock foundation. Join us as we delve into their single, ‘Big City’.

Taken off their 2026 EP, Dog Star Sessions, ‘Big City’ began as a simple voice-and-guitar arrangement, but it blossomed into something more intricate while still keeping a stripped-back intimacy. Recorded and produced at Austin’s Dog Star Studios, the single is solidly a folk song influenced by the works of Bob Dylan and James Taylor. Steady like a life compass and soothing like a loved one delicately brushing hair from your face, a mandolin entwines with pulsating drums, and a soaring guitar lingers with moving percussion. Interestingly, while every element is anchored and rhythmic, there is an odd vulnerability and off-kilter naivety teetering along the track.

Melodically, ‘Big City’ oscillates between warm tenderness and intimate fragility; however, in the end, it’s a great sweep of empowering freedom and refreshing smiles. The melody perfectly aligns with the theme and lyrics. Songwriter Bill Pucci explains:

“’Big City’ was inspired by my introduction to Austin, Texas. Coming from a more rural background, arriving in a city where live music was part of the culture was a transformative experience. Every night, musicians and fans filled venues across town, creating an atmosphere that was both inspiring and infectious… Before long, I found myself becoming part of the very scene that had captivated me from the start. The song captures that feeling of discovery, possibility, and excitement that comes from finding a place where music is not just something people listen to, but something they live.”
