Sweet Mess – Let’s Just Go (2026)
What began as a tribute act celebrating iconic women in rock evolved into a quartet sharing powerful original singles with sass, attitude, and a “pay attention because this is going to blow your mind” style. Occupying that space between classic and contemporary rock, Sweet Mess may have a sound rooted in the tradition of acts like Blondie, Pat Benatar, and Joan Jett, yet infuses the aggressive energy of newer acts like Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless, and even the pop-punk ferocity of Paramore. An established act on the Phoenix music scene, Sylvie (lead vocals), Fer Lopez (lead guitar), Rob Watson (bass guitar) and Michael Hayes (drums) might have begun their sweet mess in 2018, but they took a step into uncharted authenticity and original music this year. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Let’s Just Go’.
In a whirlwind day of recording and production at Phoenix’s Mind’s Eye Studio with Larry Elyea, Sweet Mess popped out three tracks – ‘Violate The Night’, ‘Midnight Knows My Name’, and ‘Let’s Just Go’. While the former two hold a strong 80s classic rock vibe and tone, ‘Let’s Just Go’ takes that style and inserts a more noticeable contemporary hard rock sound. Hayes’ crashing drums fall alongside Watson’s bold bass, while Lopez’s scorching guitar heads off on a fiery flight, but all bound into a rhythmic melody. About midway through the three-minute song, Lopez’s guitar slices in with a piercing solo ablaze with powerful riffs and a “oh yeah, this rocks” attitude.
The modern-day edge exists in ‘Let’s Just Go’, but Sylvie’s voice drags us back to the days of Pat Benatar… or maybe brings yesteryear to us? Regardless, her rich, almost honey-soaked voice weaves across ‘Let’s Just Go’, simultaneously swooning and kicking with fiery flair. The melody can hold its own, but the theme is what makes it more personal and timeless. Sweet Mess explains: “The song explores that universally relatable moment when you walk into any social setting and immediately think, “let’s just go”…”
In addition to the single, Sweet Mess released an official lyric video for ‘Let’s Just Go’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
