Tancred – Nightstand (2018)

Tancred is a pop-rock artist based in Maine, but originally from New England.  Jess Abbott is the former guitarist of the band Now, Now, but she has been performing as Tancred since 2011.  She is making her way through 2018 with a new album, Nightstand.

The album kicks off with ‘Song One’ which is a beautiful 1:43 long song.  It is a beautiful piece of music with outstanding vocals, a short but sweet love song.  The track ‘Queen of New York’ is a really catchy rock song, and I found myself having this on repeat.  The catchy chorus and the vocals are amazing, the guitar riffs are excellent, and the bass is very catchy.  ‘Apple Tree Girl’ starts off with slow, catchy guitar riffs then gets heavier.  Beautiful vocals and a strong bass line and drum beat – sounds a lot like Avril Lavigne.

‘Hot Star’ begins with beautiful vocals; it has beautiful guitar work and drum beat throughout the song.  The track ‘Clipping’ is a slower rock song; it has slow, beautiful guitar riffs and Tancred’s vocals are captivating.  She sings with a lot of feeling here, and the chorus is very catchy.  ‘Something Else’ is an upbeat song, catchy drum beat, amazing bass line and outstanding vocals.

‘Underwear’ starts with slow guitar riffs and again lovely vocals from Tancred.  Tancred has a gorgeous voice; it sounds like a love song about someone she can’t live without, and it’s beautifully done.  ‘Just You’ sounds like another love song, again beginning with slow guitar riffs and good vocals, it gets a bit heavier as the song progresses.  It’s very catchy; the song sounds a lot again like Avril Lavigne.

The song ‘Strawberry Selfish’ is a slow ballad type song, beautifully done, it’s the kind of song where you can sit back and relax.  ‘Reviews’ is a song about how she doesn’t like reading reviews about her music.  Hopefully, she won’t be disappointed by this review!  It’s a catchy jaunty song with catchy guitar riffs, and again Tancred sings it beautifully.

The final track ‘Rowing’ is an upbeat rock song with a catchy chorus, beautiful guitar work and drum beat, plus the bass line is awesome.  Overall, the entire album is an excellent album and worth a listen.  The whole band is incredibly talented and deserve this album to go far.
