Tara Hack – Let Go (2020)

Tara Hack is paying homage to Avril Lavigne with her single ‘Let Go’. As one of the first songs produced for her debut album, the single gives you a real insight into what to expect from her going forward. While paying homage, she also draws on the influence Lavigne had on her music and mixes it with something that is uniquely Tara Hack.

Having started her music career busking in New York City train stations, she uses her experience to draw you into her music. Teaming up with audio engineer Craig Alvin for this single, she is taking her music to the next level.

‘Let Go’ has this beat that bubbles up from the depths and leads you to Hack’s vocals. Her performance is light and gentle against your ears. There is a slight breathiness to her performance which enhances the emotions of the lyrics. This gives way as the song progresses and the power of her vocals starts to shine through. Throughout the single, she fills you with the emotional conflict of the lyrics. The light backing vocals harmonise wonderfully and bolster the performance sending it to a completely different level.

Below the vocals is an equally gentle melody. The rolling tones have a wonderful flow that tumbles toward the swells. There are a few layers to the melody that softly merge to form a paced and engaging musical thread. The melody and vocals combine to create an easy to listen to song that you can play at any volume at any time.

Tara Hack uses a light soundscape to work through conflicting emotions in the gentle ‘Let Go’. The single uses a soft melody that rolls over you and leads you to Hack’s delicate vocals.
