The Brass Bambees – On With The Show (2023)

Bringing audiences something refreshingly new but beautifully retro, Welsh group The Brass Bambees appeals to all audiences. For those who love something new to those who want a nostalgic kick with their musical drink, The Brass Bambees are the way to go. Drawing together their various influences, Rhys Davies (frontman), Ainslee Rees (lead guitar), Jamie Thomas (rhythm guitar), Sofia Reffell (bass) and Owen Evans (drums) traipse across various flavours of punk and rock.

Formed in 2022, the lads and lady can be considered newbies to the music scene but they’re making a major dent in the UK music world. Building a reputation for energetic live shows, The Brass Bambees are garnering a loyal following at home. Coverage on international blogs, playlists, radio stations and general word-of-mouth recommendations have them garnering a following across the globe. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘On With The Show’.

Following their debut single ‘Modern Casanova’, the sophomore ‘On With The Show’ takes a bit of a step down from the punk crassness of their debut. Introducing themselves as an old-school punk band in ‘Modern Casanova’, I stupidly assumed more abrupt chaos from the charismatic fivesome…silly me. Instantaneously showing their versatility with powerful genres, The Brass Bambees twist punk and grunge into a tapestry of “well it’s a bit of this, a bit of that and completely The Brass Bambees”.

Loud, bold and hard-hitting, pounding drums crash against scorching guitars in a slightly distorted haze. Interestingly, just as there is a distortion in the arrangement, everything comes together in a harmonic whole. Add the brazen grittiness of Rhys Davies vocals and ‘On With The Show’ fills you up in a breath-taking swirl of sound before slamming you down with a sublime bump.

Intoxicating, intense and a kick in the behind with frenzied insanity, The Brass Bambees are definitely ones to watch!
