Ajay Mathur – Forget About Yesterday (2024)

How do you get a wider view within your music, something that could resonate further than your local setting? Well, one of the ways is the route taken by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Ajay Mathur.  With roots in his native India, Mathur lives and works now in Switzerland, from where he has so far released six, very eclectic, diverse albums, with his album Talking Loud winning the German Rock and Pop Prize in four categories and has produced several chart-toppers and award-winning singles.

His good (no luck there) streak continues with his latest album, Blow My Cover, from which his latest single ‘Forget About Yesterday’ is culled. The album’s diversity owes quite a bit to an interesting approach Mathur took when making this album.  He contacted 25 musicians worldwide – some he knew, some he admired, but had never met – and asked them to feel free to interpret one or more of his previously released songs. No particular style, no particular timeline as pure trust requires. If they liked the idea, he asked them to please send him what they had done.

Going fully eclectic with the single ‘Forget About Yesterday’, Mathur shifts to an Americana/roots sound making this a song that can (and often is) be included on the genre’s playlists. Driven by some cool slide guitar from Richard Koechli, and very tongue-in-cheek lyrics from Mary Lou von Wyl, Mathur’s vocal delivery is as cool as ice lemonade on a very hot day. This ‘threesome’ combination working a charm here.

An excellent song from a singer-songwriter with a cosmopolitan overview who doesn’t shy away from including a hefty dose of humor in his music.

In addition to the single, Ajay Mathur released an official music video for ‘Forget About Yesterday’. You can view the video below or on Mathur’s YouTube channel.
