Anaté – Confusion (2020)

Based in Paris, France, Anaté is the joint project of singer-songwriter Ana and seasoned producer Delman. Trained as a classical pianist from a young age, Ana performed in several musical projects before going solo when she moved to France. Once she met producer Delman, it was clear that a sensational collaboration would come into play; hence, we have Anaté. Gaining influence from trip-hop artists like Massive Attack, Morcheeba and Hooverphonic, the duo offers a moody pop meets downtempo sound. ‘Confusion’ is the group’s debut single.

Gaining the attention of publications like Sounds Good Webzine, A&R Factory and Talk About Pop Music, Anaté is gaining attention on an international scale – and for good reason! Using her husky vocals, reminiscent of Amy Lee and Dido, Ana provides a broody and somewhat melancholic accompaniment to the dynamic melody. While the instrumentation is simplistic using a steady guitar with keyboard undertones, Ana’s dulcet tones add a haunting quality to ‘Confusion’.

Along with the moving melody, the single’s lyricism is insightful and enhances the poignancy of ‘Confusion’. The first off their upcoming album Confessions, ‘Confusion’ explores the duality of reality moving back and forth from the physical and psychological elements in life. Confusion by name but not confusion by nature, the single has a flowing, soulful sound placing one in a state of smooth harmony. I cannot wait for more from this duo!
