Arctic Wave – Heart Missed A Beat (2026)
A project born not out of industry ambition or a passion to share music with the masses, Arctic Wave is a product of solace, catharsis, and therapeutic value. After enduring a decade of upheaval and personal loss, C.L. Turner (the brain behind Arctic Wave) turned songwriting into a “means of survival” – a means that quickly evolved into a distinctive creative force. Since his first original single, ‘Two Horses’, the Austin-based musician has penned more than 150 songs, each rooted in emotional, existential experiences. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Heart Missed A Beat’.
Following the 2026 singles ‘Salt In The Wound’ and ‘Perfect (Side By Side)’, ‘Heart Missed A Beat’ is just what it says on the label: the moment your heart skips a beat when you meet the person you know is supposed to be “your person”. It is “…a vivid, autobiographical narrative of the exact moment a man meets the woman who will become his wife… a story of recognition, of inevitability, of a connection so immediate it feels almost supernatural.”
Produced by IceTProductions, ‘Heart Skips A Beat’ shifts from Arctic Wave’s sauntering through classic and alternative rock to a smooth, vintage funk-rock sound. A song of melodic contradictions, the verses adopt a funky mesh of bold bass, steady guitars, and a light-hearted guitar, but the chorus embraces a heavier rock-tinged vibe with crashing drums, a soaring guitar and 90s alt-rock vocals. It’s nostalgic, yet retains a contemporary edge, making it old-school for a modern-day audience.
Harmonic and rhythmic, every aspect of ‘Heart Missed A Beat’ weaves together in a soothing sweep of sound. Then again, within the gentle, mellifluous flow, the pinpricks of vulnerability and raw human fragility linger – particularly in the honey-soaked but melancholy vocals.
Sincere, charming and sentimental, ‘Heart Missed A Beat’ is a warm song made for lovers. This is my introduction to Arctic Wave, and I am eager to hear more. For now, I’m quite content to make my way through his back catalogue, perhaps having ‘Heart Missed A Beat’ on repeat.
