Ask Carol – Tonight (2022)

All the way back in 2020, Norwegian duo Ask Carol has turned our heads. First it was with their single ‘Do It In LA’ (read our review here) and then ‘Darkest Hour’, now we take a look at their latest release ‘Tonight’. While we are definitely fans, we are not the only ones to sing Ask Carol’s praises. With their blues meets grunge style, the pair have featured in FV Music Blog, Thoughts Words Actions, Edgar Allan Poets, Roadie Music and many more. So, delve with us into the most recent addition to their well-received discography – ‘Tonight’.

Following the blues-rock sound of ‘Darkest Hour’ (read our review here), Ask Carol step up another notch adding a garage rock sound in ‘Tonight’. Filled with fuzzy guitar riffs and pounding drums in an interesting arrangement, the pair go off on a tangent with a soul-stirring single. Energetic and engaging, ‘Tonight’ tips you into a sonic whirlpool whipping you about in a kaleidoscopic haze.

Frontwoman Carol’s gritty vocals have always been captivating, but the infusion of heavier punk roughness makes this track outstanding. Leading up to their debut album, the song exudes a gruff brashness that is completely unforgettable. Yes, it’s true that ‘Tonight’ gives off that moshing vibe; however, a smooth sentimentality can be felt in the mind-blowing melody.

As I said, we’re already fans of Ask Carol so this review might be a bit biased. Then again, ‘Tonight’ has Ask Carol connecting with audiences on a bolder, richer level. It’s a step into a separate dimension of sound that is completely Ask Carol.
