Bog Witch – Have Much (2026)
An established artist on the US Americana scene, as well as a name on the lips of people much further than her native USA, Wendy DuMond’s haunting vocals and cinematic music are not to be missed. A core member of Blackfood Daisy, and the brainchild of solo act Bog Witch, DuMond explores themes of identity, constraint, longing and self-discovery with a sense of quiet rebellion. Her previous single, ‘Dream Birds’, was rooted in the “freak folk” genre, combining a bold ukulele and warm synths with the imperfection of “room noise” for a “gentle yet ominous” sound. So, does her new single, ‘Have Much’ hold the same hypnotic blend of sophistication and naivety? Let’s hit the play button to find out.
The first release of 2026, ‘Have Much’ has Bog Witch sauntering into the new year with an eclectic, innovative brush of Americana; however, as much as the leaning is strongly Americana, there is a classic rock sweep that adds a heavier tinge to the track – driven by Memphis Mick’s lead guitar. Mike Gruwell’s pulsates in the background with bold drums, while Paul Bushnell’s bass keeps pace. DuMond’s splash of synths and guitar flutter in the sonic breeze, adding a playful attitude to ‘Have Much’.
While the single is one to intoxicate, hypnotise, and leave you twirling about in a rock-filled haze, there is an eeriness that clips at your ears and hits between the eyes. DuMond’s haunting vocals are like a siren calling sailors to be dashed against the rocks – something you really don’t want, but the skin-chilling voice turns your head toward an unfortunate fate. I find this particularly interesting as the voice drives ‘Have Much’ as a narrator of a complex tale. DuMond explains:
“’Have Much’ explores betrayal and self-deception through the voice of an unreliable narrator… a shifting psychological landscape where memory, myth and competing inner voices blur the boundaries between truth and self-deception…. Rather than offering clear answers, the song leaves listeners to decide whose version of the story they can trust.”
