Chaidura – Plastic Beauty (2026)

Creating music that unpicks human vulnerability and fragility with a hard, heavy sound, singer-songwriter Chaidura offers listeners a dark, dramatic, defiant “aggressivemotional visual music” as a place to find some comfort, feel accepted, and discover their identity. A sonic concoction of alternative rock, emo and visual kei, the UK-based musician is, well, not for the faint-hearted, but also perfect for the faint-hearted who need to be wrapped in a warm musical bubble. Today, we turn up the speakers for his most recent single, ‘Plastic Beauty’.

In a world where physical beauty is paramount, the acceptance, nay, the acknowledgement of natural beauty is pushed to the side. Think about it. Make-up is a seeming necessity from a young age; the painting of a face and constant taming of hair is expected. Cosmetic surgery to make your butt bigger Kardashian-style, to take your boobs from size B to D, or botex to plump up those lips. All are available everywhere.

I’ll admit cosmetic surgery can be used to remove scars or reconstruct damage, but the Barbie doll look is still leading society. Chaidura tackles the age-old concept of being judged for one’s natural appearance in ‘Plastic Beauty’. He explains: “This song is an anthem for anyone who has been judged for their appearance. We are taught to reject the natural in favour of a ‘plastic’ ideal. This track vents that frustration. Being a good human being far outweighs being a good-looking one with a hollow soul.”

Lyrically and conceptually, ‘Plastic Beauty’ is a vengeful, empowering sweep of theatrical music; however, its heaviness fully expresses raw emotion. Blasting you off your feet with a brush of metal music, you can scream along to the thrashing drums and scorching guitars. Yet, within the mash of metal, easy slips of jazz and alt-rock flare up, as the gospel vocals shimmer behind Chaidura’s throaty screams.

Really a smash in the face, ‘Plastic Beauty’ has an almost palpable tension rife with urgency and frenzy, but also optimistic urges of self-worth. I cannot wait for the upcoming EP LIMINAL
