Track of the Day: Dahlia Wakefield – Well Dressed Lies (2025)
Boasting over 20 years in the music industry, I think it’s safe to say that singer-songwriter Dahlia Wakefield has been around the block a few times. With powerhouse vocals and a badass attitude, the Canadian musician has been touted as “a force to be reckoned with”. From her early years as The X-Factor with musician Alan Dobish to her metal and hard rock cover bands, and even performing solo at retirement homes to “bring them back to the days of their youth as they listen with tears in their eyes to the familiar ‘oldies’…”, Wakefield embraces music with passion. Join us as we jump into her latest single, ‘Well Dressed Lies’.
Following her 2025 single ‘GOODBYE.’, ‘Well Dressed Lies’ is a gritty, grungy, hard-hitting match of hard and classic rock. A sonic alchemist, producer Sandro Dominelli creates a shining concoction of Alan Tymofichuk’s guitars, Jeff Godley’s bass, Kevin Frey’s acoustic guitar, and Dennis Boisvert’s drums. Each weaving together in a kaleidoscopic arrangement, yet adding suave individuality in its own right. For me, the rock tone dominates, but what really gets my toe tapping and head bobbing is the funky guitar slipping in with a quick “dum, dum, dum, da, dum”, breaking the rush of rock with a mischievous wink.
Sauntering atop the shining melody is Dahlia Wakefield’s rich vocals. Gritty and rugged but also smooth and warm, her voice incites one to dance as she grabs you by the hand and leads the way. Melodically, ‘Well Dressed Lies’ is a fun sweep of heavy music; however, it is the message and lyricism that add weight. An empowering tune that “speaks to anyone who’s ever been misled by appearances, exposing the danger of lies that come dressed in charm and walking away stronger…”
Sincere, introspective, authentic, and really just the coolest song, Dahlia Wakefield’s ‘Well Dressed Lies’ will definitely be stuck in my head. Honestly, I don’t mind at all.
In addition to the single, Dahlia Wakefield released an official lyric video for ‘Well Dressed Lies’. You can view the video below and/or on her YouTube channel.
