Flowvers – Far Away (2021)

Flowvers are hitting out with a big sound packed with angst and the urge to escape. Their single ‘Far Away’ captures feelings we have all faced during lockdown of wanting to get away only having nowhere to go. With a melody that takes their hook-laden sound to a new level, the band gets you rocking out, soaring on their sound and diving into the angst that has become a recurrent theme for them.

With a growing fanbase, Matisse Moretti (vocals), Connor Griffiths (drums), Stan Powell (guitar) and Henry Wood (bass) continue to push and evolve their sound. After meeting in their school years, the band started playing, writing and recording their debut EP. With different music tastes, they bring their influences, skills and styles together for a sound that bursts through your speakers and grips you tight.

‘Far Away’ plucks lightly into your ears before the rock tones of the band make an appearance. There is a flowing movement to the guitar that has you swaying and bopping to the sound before you know what has happened. While the main thread of the melody is solid, there are these elements that skitter across the soundscape bringing texture and the scratch of angst. When the guitars get their chance to call through the melody they really soar and take you along for the ride. There are a lot of elements making up the melody that come together for a sophisticated arrangement that flies into your soul.

While you rock out to the melody, Moretti’s vocals tug at your brain with a swirl of thoughts. The lyrics have a heavy edge of angst, but there is a greater hit of a dream of escaping woven into them. This shines in the vocal performance as well as it turns from a musing on the need to get out to a plea to fly far away. At times, you can almost feel the stir-crazy emotions that we have all encountered during lockdown. Moretti’s vocals rise in the latter part of the track to soar along the guitar line with the final grasping moments of crying to get away.

Flowvers fly between angst and the need to escape in the big tones and soaring notes of ‘Far Away’. The single has an amazing sophistication as the different melodic elements come together for a solid line that captures the scratch of angst and escapism. Moretti’s vocals muse and plea through the soundscape bringing the thoughts we have all had to sonic life.
